KDFL Under 20 Division

Monasterevin AFC 3 BBC United FC 0

A very cold Barrett Park was the venue for todays meeting between monasterevin and BBC United in the u20 division. Monasterevin’s recent form has been good with BBC United playing well but not seeing any luck fall their way in games. The opening ten minutes were fast paced and full of action as both teams set out to get the early foothold on the game.

The home side we’re getting the better of the play and we’re passing the ball well in midfield consisting of Corey Lyons, Oisin Molloy, Paddy Murray and Luke Kavanagh.  Sean Guiteirez and sean Bennett up top for monasterevin making runs and dragging the defence of BBC out of position.

The visitor’s defenders of Ruairi McCormack, Daniel Kelly, Adam Walsh and Anthony Logan held firm but we’re getting serious pressure put on them.    The game was ten minutes old when monasterevin’s Sean Bennett was taken down in the box and a penalty awarded to the home side.  Bennett stepped up himself and seen his effort brilliantly saved by Sandjis Buls in the visiting goal who tipped the effort around the post and out for a corner.

At the other end goalkeeper Mikolaj Deren and defenders Kian Barry, Euan Brennan, Kian Doyle & Jordan Downey were comfortable enough with BBC struggling to get any real rhythm going. Fifteen minutes in and a corner swung in was cleared but the ball fell to Sean Bennett who sent in a lovely chipped ball that was superbly volley into the net by Euan Brennan to put the home side into a deserved 1-0 lead.

Monasterevin we’re sensing more and piled then pressure on BBC but their midfield of John Doyle, Conor O’Donoghue, Aaron Scott and jack Heaney were not giving any time on the ball and working really hard to try get back into the game.  Cathal Fox and Flynn Nolan not getting much in way of chances with the latter shooting wide with a rare effort for the away side. Buls in the BBC goal made a few top saves to deny Monasterevin from going further ahead with the home side gaining the better possession.

On the half hour mark Monasterevin won a free kick from twenty five yards out and Paddy Murray struck his effort hard and on target and saw the ball creep under the body of the BBC keeper to put his team 2-0 up.  Seven minutes later a mazy run by Corey Lyons which saw him beat three players ended with a rocket of an effort from twenty yards and it flew into the bottom corner and puts Monasterevin 3-0 to the good.

The second half wasn’t as quick paced as the first half with BBC more solid and better on the ball. They forced the home side a bit further back and didn’t allow the space as they did down the wings.  Very few clear cut chances for either team resulting in shots from outside the box or from set pieces. Monasterevin held out for the clean sheet and all three points to push them on in the league and put them into league contention heading into the latter stage of season.

BBC will be looking to improve on their second half display and get points on the board.

Best for them on the day were Adam Walsh, Conor O’Donoghue, Aaron Scott and Sandjis Buls who was extremely unlucky with the free kick but made some great saves.

Best for the home side were Euan Brennan, Luke Kavanagh, Kian Barry and man of the match Corey Lyons.
