KDFL Under 20 Division 1 League
Newbridge United FC 7 Clonmullion FC 1
This game was very even up until the tenth minute when Newbridge opened the scoring through James Mahony after good approach play by Tom Walsh and Ryan Kearney. The visitors came close on a number of occasions over the next twenty minutes with Ger Kenny and Jay Connell dictating from midfield with Brian Byrne and Con Murray raiding down the flanks. However it was Newbridge who scored again on the half hour mark through Calum Sinclair. Clonmullion were reduced to ten men just on half time which left them with a mountain to climb.
The second half Newbridge came out with a point to make with both wingers Callum Sinclair and Tom Walsh finding loads of joy out wide and the ball finding its way to James Mahony again with a direct ball to the feet of fellow Striker Dennis Kave who was a constant torn in the side of the visiting defence, turned the defender and put the ball past the keeper far post to bring the game to 3-0. Shortly after United were at it again when smooth passing found the ball at Striker James Mahony’s feet who dribbled past the defence and placed the ball into the far corner .4-0
Clonmullion never gave up despite being down a man and got on the score sheet when captain Baylie Foley played a great ball to Brian Byrne who dribbled past 2 players before crossing for Con Murray to make no mistake at the back post. However United didn’t wait long to respond when the ball was cleared off the line from a James Mahony effort found its way to winger Callum Sinclair who beat two defenders and played the ball into the near corner for a well-deserved goal bringing the game to 5-1.
The winger didnt stop there when finding himself on the ball again out wide shortly after again beating 2-3 defenders played the ball off the post but waiting to finish into the open net was Striker Dennis Kave 6-1.
With time nearly up there was one more moment for the Newbridge attack when a ball played through the clonmullion defence by Midfielder Murray Pender found his Captain Cian Delaney and as always in an unselfish manor squared the ball to Left Back Maxwell Maina who made a smashing run into the box and rifled the ball past the keeper in the final play of the game to finish the match 7-1
Plenty of mentions needed in another great team display but Man Of The Match Went to Dennis Kave and Callum Sinclair who were inseparable with their fantastic performances, Newbridge United now look towards their next game where a win would see them Crowned League champions for the 2nd year in a row. Best for Newbridge were Sinclair, Kearney, Walsh and Mahony. Best for Clonmullion were Byrne, Murray, Kenny and Connell.
