Feature game - Leinster Leader

KDFL Under 20 Division

BBC United FC 3 Kilcullen AFC 4

On a muggy November morning, Kilcullen AFC Under 20 travelled to north Kildare to face Under 20 newbies BBC Utd which saw two struggling teams battle it out for a much needed three points.

Both teams struggled on a heavy pitch but a good BBC Utd press saw them go 1-0 on ten minutes when Cathal Fox open proceedings following a well executed cross from Sam Cassidy, Kilcullen AFC replied quickly when Jack Jordan and Luke Boland linked up to set up a well worked goal finished by Lennon Wilson. BBC were awarded a penalty on nineteen minutes however it was excellently saved by the visiting keeper.  It was very much end to end play from both sides with a fast tempo on heavy ground.  Just prior to half time, Cathal Fox hit again from an expertly placed pass from Flynn Nolan edged the home side ahead at 2-1. Kilcullen AFC dominated the end of half but alas as happened this season, had nothing to show for it.

Kilcullen AFC came out quick in the second half and finally earned a goal through Neil Delaney from eighteen yards to level matters at 2-2 with all to play for. 10 minutes later a poorly cleared corner was punished by BBC Utd when they took the lead again when the quick thinking Conor O’Donoghue hit it from the eighteen yard box into the top corner. 3-2 to BBC.

A system change was needed for Kilcullen AFC and found more offensive joy through that with Neil Delaney finding his second of the game giving him three in his last two games leaving the scoreline at 3-3 with fifteen minutes to go with all to play for.  BBC Utd look to settle for a draw and Kilcullen AFC look for their first win of the campaign. With ten minutes to go an unlikely goal scorer in jack Jordan timed a perfect half volley from twenty yards out into the top right corner of the home net to give the visitors the vital kick start to their season. Best for the winners wereNeil Delaney, Jack Jordan but man of the match goes to Kian McGowan who stepped up, was the centre of all Kilcullen offence and drove the team on. Best for the home side was Daniel Kelly.
