Arlington FC 1 Allenwood Celtic FC 1
A share of the spoils was a fair result in this Noel Recruitment Premier Division tie, although
Arlington will be disappointed they did not take all three points to close the gap between them and
leaders Newbridge Hotspurs FC.
Arlington started off strong and thought they had taken the lead when Shane Nealon crossed in and
Steven Lennon put beyond the visiting keeper Alan Sheridan however it was ruled off side by the
Referee.
At the other end a free kick in Allenwood’s own half taken by keeper Sheridan was misjudged by
Arlington defence and bounced awkwardly almost causing the home side trouble. Arlington
maintained their dominance and were unlucky when Olu Solanki’s effort was well saved by the
visiting keeper Sheridan again coming to the rescue.
Allenwood were not without their changes at the other end when ten minutes before the break Jay
Ryan’s effort smashed of the home crossbar and Evan Moore tucked the ball away to put the visitors
1-0 up somewhat against the run of play.
At the turn around Arlington threw everything at the visitors in wave after wave of attacking play.
Cillian Coughlan Maher struck well from outside the box which forced a brilliant save from the
Sheridan after ten minutes. Allenwood were resolute in their defending backed up by the brilliance
of keeper Sheridan they held the home side at bay until the dying moments when they unluckily
conceded an own goal coming from a ball which was swung in by the impressive Stephen Lennon for
the home side to give both sides a share of the points. Best for the home side was Stephen Lennon
and Shane Nealon while for Allenwood Jason Wyse, Dan Coyne, Evan Moore and Alan Sheridan in
goal.
