So Fresh Entertainment Women’s Cup Semi Final

Monasterevin AFC 7 Sallins Celtic FC 4 (AET)

The Womens Cup reply between Monasterevin AFC and  Sallins celtic took place today at Togher Road. The previous game was a cracker. Could this game be a repeat? You better believe it!. Monasterevin were quick out of the blocks, Coleen Rickard scoring with a great free kick. The set pieces kept coming and Nicole Moran put the home team two up, again from a dead ball. Sallins responded on the seventeeth minute with a good strike from distance. Sallins were pressing for the equaliser and Alex Ogilsby Kinsella made a great save to keep the home team ahead.

The first thirty minutes just flew. Sallins equalised on the thirty seventh minute, a long ball which landed at the Sallins forward was well finished. The scoring wasn't finished yet with Abby Kemmy putting the home team ahead with a cool finish going into the half timebreak.

The second half started with Sallins equalising from the penalty spot. Sallins went ahead minutes later when their number eighteen put a great ball into the box with, Sofia De Stefano clinically finishing at the back post. The home team pushed for the equaliser, and it came with ten minutes remaining when Ann Marie Gaham put in a dead ball free kick that was headed into the net by Colleen Rickard who got her second of the match. On the eighty fifth minute the visitors went down to ten players, a moment that had a huge effect on the match. Both teams deserved a rest following  the ninety minutes with the game going into extra time. The first period of extra time was a cagey affair with both defences holding out their opponents. The second period of extra time produced three great goals from the home team. The first one came from a corner that caused a scramble in the box, Nicole Moran was quickest to react and finished neatly to the net to put the home side 5-4 up.  Minutes later the sixth came from a brilliant cross from Brainne Kaye who found Nicole Moran who caught the ball on the half volley. The home team scored the last in the final minutes with a great finish from Louise Scully. A great game of football between two exceptional sides. The Sallins keeper was injured at the end of the game, hopefully she has a speedy recovery. Monasterevin go through to the cup Final where they will meet Derry Rovers. Best for the home side were Brianne Kaye, Louise Scully, Ann-Marie Graham and player of the match Nicole Moran.

So Fresh Entertainment Women’s Shield Semi Final

Rathangan AFC 3 Edenderry Town AFC 1

This Women’s Shield semi final was a very tight affair with the home side coming out on top. Rathangan almost went ahead after ten minutes when Louise Maloney was unlucky to see her strike rebound off the Edenderry upright. Rathangan were on top in the early stages and eight minutes later Lauren Griffin brought two great saves from the visiting keeper. With twenty five minutes gone Rathangan again were very unlucky when the impressive Louisa Maloney latched onto a quickly taken free kick brought another outstanding save from the visiting keeper. The Edenderry keeper was living a charmed life as she saved brilliantly again on the half hour from a Lauren Griffin through ball.

The opener eventually came with four minutes to go to the break from the home side when substitute Lucy Whelehan made no mistake from close range following a great through ball from Whelehan to put Rathangan 1-0 up.

Five minutes into the second half Louisa Maloney skinned the post with another brilliant effort. It was 2-0 to the home side on sixty five minutes when Lauren Griffin was on the mark to double their advantage. Rathangan missed some glorious chances to go further ahead from Jess Taylor and Griffin again before their added a third through Louisa Maloney. Edenderry keeper was again called to the visitors rescue on several occasions before the end of the game. Best for the winners were Louisa Maloney, Lauren Girffin and Mischa Conroy.
