Rathangan welcomed Wexford League side Bunclody AFC to Canal road in a cracker of an LFA Junior Cup game on Sunday.
The away side started much the brighter and were rewarded with an early goal with a sweet strike from outside the box putting them 1-0 up, Rathangan conceding their first goal in ten games.
Rathangan bounced back beginning to dominate the ball. A cross in from Arun Doyle found the inform Joe Breen who slotted home to level matters going into the break.
The second half added even more drama and entertainment, Rathangan keeping Bunclody pinned back, who as a unit were very solid. On the hour mark Rathangan were awarded a penalty following Arun Doyle being brought down in the box and Joe Breen stepped up to give the home side the lead a at 2-1. The lead didn’t last long however as two minutes later Bunclody were awarded a penalty of their own, slotting home and levelling the game at 2-2. Straight after tip off Bunclody won the ball and were very unlucky not to take the lead with a stunning effort rattling the bar. Rathangan were certainly on the front foot for the last few minutes of the game, it looked as though Bunclody were going to take the game to extra time but Lee Moore found space in the box in the ninetieth minute and slotted home to give the tie to Rathangan.
